Once again, there are major changes to our rabbitry...  The Silver Fox were great rabbits, but it was just too difficult for me when butchering times came around.  The Silver Fox have such sweet temperaments and knowing they are endangered... 

We will now be raising primarily New Zealand Whites and California x New Zealand crosses.  I have scaled down the rabbitry.  My experiment at pastured rabbit was a spectacular failure.  Everything went great during cold weather, but about June, the rabbits were attacked by what are called "warble" flies.  We have neighbors with cattle and these flies are primarily a cow parasite.  They lay one to several eggs on an animal. The egg hatches and burrows into the skin where it developes into a large larvae, known as a "grub", eating the animal alive.  In something large like a cow, they are bad enough, but in a rabbit the consequences are beyond words.  All our rabbits are back in cages...
